Australia ends Iraq combat operations!!

“SYDNEY, Australia – Australia, a staunch U.S. ally and one of the first countries to commit troops to the war in Iraq five years ago, ended combat operations there Sunday.” – Yahoo News

“Soldiers lowered the Australian flag that had flown over Camp Terendak in the southern Iraqi city of Talil. The combat troops were expected to return to Australia over the next few weeks, with the first of them arriving home Sunday.” – Yahoo News

Well, I guess its a step in the right direction, eh? I just hope that Great Britain will follow and then maybe the U.S.A. We can only hope.

“The move fulfills a campaign promise by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who was swept into office in November largely on the promise that he would bring home the country’s 550 combat troops by the middle of 2008. Rudd has said the Iraq deployment made Australia more of a target for terrorism.” – Yahoo News

  1. the question is: after pulling out, what?

because of the bad decision, iraq is now in shambles. but where is the WMD? and where is the justification of the invasion? australia should have backed out sooner. backing out now does not relieve the country of being a party to the big mistake.

That is true, unfortunately they did not explain why they went in there in the first place! We and they already know that their is no weapons of mass destruction.
